Biography

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering and Technology from Egerton University, Kenya, Tabitha Hackenberg worked in the bottling and packaging manufacturing industry, first as a sales engineer and later as a project manager carrying out installation, commissioning and after-sale services with clients in East and Central Africa.

In 2016, Tabitha Hackenberg left her career as a project manager to pursue a Master of Engineering in Energy and Environmental Management with a specialization in developing countries, at the Europa-Universität Flensburg, Germany with the support of a DAAD (EPOS) scholarship. In her master’s thesis, she carried out a cost-optimal electrification plan for improving electricity access using geospatial techniques targeted at unelectrified areas in Kenya.

From 2018 to 2019, Tabitha Hackenberg worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Energy and Environmental Management (EEM), Europa-Universität Flensburg in the field of energy system modelling, spatial analysis and sustainable energy planning for rural areas.

Tabitha Hackenberg is currently working as a research assistant as well as pursuing her doctoral studies at the Department of Energy and Environmental Management (EEM), Europa Universität Flensburg. She lectures on Geographical Information System (GIS) for energy modelling and simulation and Research Methods with an emphasis on quantitative methods. Her doctoral research focuses on integrating energy system analysis with spatial techniques for modelling sustainable energy systems in developing countries.
