Biography
Maria is a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Department of Energy and Environmental Management. Her research focuses on sustainable energy planning and policy. She is particularly interested in exploring potential synergies between energy sectors using a smart energy systems approach to facilitate the energy transition and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Global South.
Maria received a PhD in Economics from the Europa-Universität Flensburg, where she studied as a Reiner Lemoine Scholar. She has postgraduate experience as a Research Associate in the Policy and Innovation Group at the University of Edinburgh working on techno-economic and socio-environmental assessments of emerging offshore renewable energy technologies. Before joining academia, Maria was a Project Engineer in the Oil & Gas sector working for ExxonMobil and DNV GL in Nicaragua and Germany respectively.
